OUR MISSION IS TO INSPIRE A RECONNECTION WITH THE NATURAL WORLD

Scott Petersen, also known to many as the Reptile Man, founded the Reptile Zoo in 1996 with the hope of furthering his goal to help others appreciate more fully the beauties and mysteries the natural world has to offer. Before founding the Reptile Zoo he was a high school biology teacher. After a few years of teaching he decided to start a business performing reptile presentations at schools and other venues. More than  35 years later, he continues to live his dream by sharing his passion for reptiles throughout the state. He has performed for over 800 schools, festivals, corporate parties and other events. Scott has been featured on Disney’s Bill Nye The Science Guy and PBS’s Biz Kids. One of his sons, Isaac Petersen, took over the zoo in January of 2012. ​
